



L’Orsetto Gelato

L’Orsetto Gelato was born out of one sweltering Roman summer in 2023—when the heat was relentless and the only true salvation came in the form of Italian gelato. That summer, I, Omar Ali Khan, found myself enrolling at a university in Italy to study the craft from some of the finest Gelato Maestros in the world. What followed was nothing short of life-changing.
We had been churning ice cream at The Hot Spot for nearly 30 years, completely unaware that gelato wasn’t just a fancier word for ice cream—it was a revelation. Lighter, smoother, richer in flavour, and humbler in showmanship, gelato was the frozen dessert we never knew we’d been missing.
Armed with a hit-list of Italy’s best gelaterias and a voracious appetite, my co-creators and I spent our days visiting three (or more) each day. By the time I’d made my way through the likes of Fiocco di Neve, Gelateria della Palma, and Fata Morgana, my fate was sealed. I had a new calling: to make gelato the right way—no shortcuts, no artificial nonsense, and absolutely no rainbow-coloured deception.
One professor’s advice stayed with me:
"In the age of TikTok and Instagram, there’s only one real advertisement—your product. Let it speak for itself."
We took that to heart. Our production is tiny—just myself and two brilliant young accomplices who care as deeply as I do. Together, we craft everything by hand using only natural ingredients, sourcing vanilla pods from Sri Lanka and Uganda and doing our best to support farmers over faceless conglomerates, even when it’s not easy.
Our proudest moments come when an Italian customer takes a bite and says, “This is as good as what I’ve had back home.” That’s when we know we’re on the right path. A path laid out by our teachers in Italy, and one we now follow with joy, integrity, and plenty of laughs along the way.

At The Hot Spot, we’ve always believed in evolving. Nearly three decades after serving our first scoop, we embarked on a bold new journey—straight to Italy. There, we swapped gelato spoons for notebooks and studied at university under master artisans from Brescia and Bologna. The result? L’Orsetto Gelato—a tribute to the real thing.
We learned to make our gelato from true maestros from scratch, every single time. No artificial colours, no ready-made bases, no syrups, no shortcuts. Just honest, fresh, local ingredients turned into silky-smooth, mousse-like scoops of joy.
Our mission? To introduce Islamabad to the magic of authentic Italian Artisan Gelato. This isn’t ice cream dressed in fancy clothes. It’s lighter, smoother, and made to be eaten fresh—never preserved or processed.
While many others may call their product gelato, we respectfully suggest that you taste ours, and you’ll know the difference.
So, here’s to growth, gratitude, and our gelato guru Signor Roberto, whose lessons inspire every batch we churn. We hope it makes him proud—and you smile.
***** PLEASE NOTE:
We make our gelato fresh, using fresh ingredients. Our gelato also takes a procedure which is over a 24-hour period, as each flavour is allowed to infuse at least overnight to have the desired flavour - nothing about the gelato making process is hurried or compromised. We also do not store our gelato in the freezer because authentic artisan gelato needs to be eaten fresh and is not designed for an extended period in a freezer. Artisan gelato has a relatively short shelf life, and we will not compromise on the quality of our gelato for extra cash. We will tell customers very clearly that once bought, it needs to be eaten relatively soon or it will lose its incredible texture and taste, especially as our gelato is entirely free of preservatives, which almost all gelato that is bought in a supermarket will contain. We will not compromise our product, and we will be sincere and sometimes blunt about how quickly it needs to be consumed after purchase, and unlike Ice Cream, it cannot survive in a freezer for days and weeks on end. When you place an order for our gelato, we will churn it fresh for you, and many times, a particular flavour will not be available because we use only fresh seasonal fruit and will not use any frozen or tinned alternatives. A large percentage of our gelato is bound by seasons and will not be available unless fresh products are in season. For example, once the strawberry season is over and as we don't have access to imported strawberries, our strawberry-flavoured gelato will not be available out of season. The same goes for Mango or any other seasonal fruit. When you place an order for gelato, it must be a minimum of 1 Litre, and you must allow us 24 hours to create the gelato fresh for you, as we will not compromise on quality. Many times, a basic Chocolate or Vanilla flavour will be available to order, depending on how much we have in stock. Still, most times we will prefer to create an order fresh from scratch and provide a gelato for you that is an authentic artisan experience, no less. If this means that we make less money, it is unavoidable because for us, quality comes before anything else. We hope you understand and that when you place an order, you will give us the required time to produce a product that is the best it can be.
